NYC Moment #1

By JILLANNE

We have all seen them.  The homeless person.  The get up is usually the same:  granny cart piled high with ’stuff’, the old ratty clothes, the missing teeth.  She was different though.  There was not the dangerous, scheming or vacant look in her face.  I smiled and said good morning.  She smiled back and commented on the weather which was sunny but still chilly.  Sometimes it actually is nice just to talk about the weather.  I know I’m not rolling in the bucks, but I also have a roof over my head and can pay the rent this month, so why not help out a fellow human.  I offered to buy her something from the coffee cart we were passing.  ”Oh no…I would like to buy YOU something.”   I froze for about a second.  ”Really?”  I was actually in need of a bit of friendliness and here it was coming from such a unexpected source.  Perhaps this just goes to show that someone really is watching out for you and not to discount any sources.  Maybe it was my good karma coming back to me.  Or by doing to others, they are doing to me?  Whatever it was, I will forever remember and be grateful for that cup of seventy-five cent tea.  May your angels be there for you today…
