Baptism by Flower Water – NYC Moments #119

June 17, 2009

In many religions and cultures you are baptized and thus renewed. It’s a big event for most as well as new start for some. What about those moments when you just need a little pick me up that isn’t in the form of say, chocolate? I was in a funk this morning and went for my usual cup of organic coffee at Whole Foods in the Bowery. I did manage to not go for the chocolate chip scone because I must have known at an intuitive level that there was a better way.  I found it sitting at a red light on Houston in the form of a NYC water truck.  It was dousing with a beautiful arc of water the pretty flowers in the median. Impulse took hold and I dashed from my corner and triumphantly stood with arms flung high under the arc of water coming from the top of the truck and was thus baptised NYC style. I yelled ‘Thank you!’ and skipped off home.  It was just what I needed to put a bit of the kid back in me in this very adult world and a smile on my face.

Putting it out there – NYC Moments #115

June 10, 2009

It’s a beautiful thing when an artist can put there whole self out there with abandon for all to see. I saw that tonight with Guyora Kats  (http://www.myspace.com/guyorakats) who is a very talented musician and songwriter.    He’s playing again on June 24th @ 10pm at Rockwood Music Hall so come join the fun. He packs the crowd in so be prepared to get close with your neighbor 🙂

Enjoy!

Art- NYC Moments: #44

June 13, 2008

My friend and I went to the L.E.S. Art Crawl this evening.  I am amazed at the vastly different styles of art out there.  Some it I liked and some of it I didn’t.  That’s a bit like life.  Someone once introduced me to the term, “Take what you like and leave the rest”.  Everyone is going to have their own idea of what they want to take and leave which could be totally opposite to mine.  Thank god for that.  If we all liked the same thing, there would be a shortage of that thing constantly.  Since we all have our own personal likes and dislikes, life is wonderfully balanced.  Enjoy!

Moe Isaac Music – NYC Moments: #39

June 7, 2008

I, and about 70 other people had the amazing experience of seeing Moe Isaac perform at the Livingroom for the L.E.S. Band Crawl today.   Of course this is just my opinion, but this guy is on.  I was blown away.  I got up and danced.  I clapped.  I felt my heart open up.  Moe Isaac was real.  He wrote and sang from his heart with no apologies.  He inspired me.  The whole ensamble from the two bass players to the violinist to the drummer was such a pleasure to listen to.  This performing arts group reminded me of why I uprooted myself and moved 3,000 miles away from my family and friends:  So that I too can speak my truth from my heart in my art forms.  Being an artist can be a struggle at times, so if any of you folks out there want to discover the next hot music group, go to: http://www.myspace.com/moeisaacmusic     Moe Isaac, you are on.
